The news of the premature death of Jim 'Nobby' Clark was met with great sadness at the club and in the wider community. Nobby was an active participant in club affairs both at committee level and in employing his building skills across a number of clubhouse projects. He was also a keen follower of the teams as well as enjoying one or two light refreshments in the bar afterwards. Nobby had a long association with the club playing his final game in 1977 having played 201 times. All his friends at the club will sorely miss his sense of humour and company.

RFU Seal of Approval Club of the Year Award 2009/10 |

RFU PRESS RELEASE
RFU Seal of Approval Club of the Year Award 2009/10
Winner: Keswick RFC
It says much for Keswick RFC that they even had time to complete the application form for this award given their seemingly relentless problems with flooding. However, 2009/10 has been a year of triumph as well as adversity for the Cumbrian club and having finished Runners’ Up in the Seal of Approval section last season, their elevation to top spot is a fitting tribute to all the workers at Davidson Park. With over £250,000 raised towards pitch drainage and floodlighting, a new girls’ tournament attracting 400 players, six new Level 1 coaches, six new ELRA referees and four new committee members being recruited, ‘business as usual’ has been proceeding at the club which underlines the tremendous spirit at this RU outpost.
RFU President’s XV – Seal of Approval Club of the Year
This award looks to recognise an accredited club that has reached high levels of provision for all its members and has the planning and processes to ensure long term sustainability. The club will have strong links with the local community and will have fully inclusive recruitment and retention programmes.
Full Details of the President Award can be found on www.rfu.com

Sadly, David, passed away recently after a short illness. A well known and much loved figure, David was still very keen on watching Keswick on match days. His Life Membership, former Presidency and position on the committee for over 40 years illustrated his commitment and importance to the club and showed what the club meant to him. In addition, he found time to play 108 times for Keswick as well as representing the County. He will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him through our common interest in rugby and the club is a sadder place as a result of his passing. |

Jason Leonard's visit (and his friend from the British Lions) |
|

There was a very good turn out of Mini and Junior players for the Sunday's visit of legendary former England prop forward Jason Leonard. The visit marked the start of the RBS Six Nations Roadshow, Jason is the celebrity at the front of the promotion and Keswick RFC was chosen by RBS and the RFU to be the launchpad.
Two nights hard frost put paid to the scheduled matches so Keswick improvised alternative training based on extremely sketchy information. When four separate training sessions commenced for Under-10, under-12s, under 14s and Under -17s at 10-30am, there was a request for the players to stick around for longer than usual and preserve a bit of energy and enthusiasm for Jason's arrival sometime later.
Once the media-event organizers became aware of the need to establish and maintain a relationship with those responsible for the coaching of the Keswick players the event ran as smoothly as any improvised operation can. Once the timetable became clear the players were informed and sessions were modified accordingly. Thanks to the use of appropriately timed breaks, and varied activity, even the very young players were able to maintain stamina and the four hour attention span required. There is no doubt that the glorious sunny weather helped this process, as did the superb condition of the Davidson Park pitches. Above all the happy atmosphere was inspired by the contribution of Keswick Coaches Andy Partington, Kay and Paul Clarke, Howard Winter, Gary Metcalfe, Iain MacPherson, Phil Harrison, Peter Robinson, and Alan Weightman whose dedicated attitude and skill preserved attention and concentration and inspired a wonderful final presentation. This was presided over by Jason Leonard himself who arrived bang on time at 2-00 pm. Mercifully the official pleasantries were kept to a minimum and Jason was soon mixing amongst the players.

who won 114 caps for England and 5 caps for the British & Irish Lions will be spending the day a Keswick Rugby Club. The event will feature during this years 6 Nations matches which begin in February. Keswick was chosen to receive special assistance through this launch event by the RBS RugbyForce panel in recognition of the club’s fighting spirit, shown over the past five years after suffering from severe flooding in 2005 and 2009. The RBS RugbyForce panel and the RFU further identified Keswick RUFC as a club that showed strong willingness to overcome adversity. On Sunday, RBS RugbyForce will bring together club players, members and volunteers from the local area to carry out work at the club. Improvements will mainly focus on clearance work following the recent floods, various painting jobs and generally giving the club a spring clean.
