The 1st returned to winning ways but certainly were not firing on all cylinders – there was a strange lethargic air about many players – not sure if its lack of training, coming off the big Millom & Workington games but they will need to sharpen up and get back to the old rythem especially aganist Netherhall away next week
2nd XV result was well deserved and lack of experience in some of the young players stopped a couple of certain tries – Steve Dowson is still trying to get over a couple of the plays that had ihim in the clear if a pass had been made – but another good strong performance from this team with its nice mix of old heads and young legs – but Hayler you have never been able to kick and you are too old to learn !!!
in a repeat of the home game against Millom they again scantched victory in the last 5 minutes. It was always going to be a close game and with strong winds in Keswick the wind conditions at Millom were storm force! – which meant Keswick had no choice but to run penalties in the second half as they played into the wind – well tried lads
A return to leagie games saw Keswick beat league leaders Workington who have been unbeaten till today
No one knew what to expect with a very different side playing due to 7 pre christmad 1st Teams not being available due to gap year trips and Xmas holidays
Following heavy rain the game was played on the 2nd team which was “heavy”. The Workington forwards preseed Keswick’s line for the first 10 minutes but sound defence held Workington out and a sudden yurn over ball led to an 80 yards try from Keswick much against the run f play – Keswick slowly gained ground and play moved towards the half way line before a quick break from matty Roper led to another breakaway try just before half time. The Second half saw Keswick slip behind to a push over try in the first 5 minutes but then Keswick began to dominate and scored a 3rd try from Bunting – Workington made a late come back to give the crowd an eciting last 5 minutes.
A superb all round performance that saw several 2nd teamers move than step upto the plate and make a real conribution noticebly Barney, Tim Green and Glen Weightman
A superb win – next week could be tougher still away to tiele chasers Millom
