A very good crowd including most of the 1st team lads turned out to watch the girls take on a very well practiced Tynedale / Darlington Mowden Park team. At the end of the game there were some very impressed spectators ! Well done girls
I superb display of what these girls have been working so hard to achieve – superb tackling, great open play running and certainly no quarter asked or given. In the end having led most of the game 2 late tries from a very fast winger sealed the game for Tynedale.
If there was a clear area to work on its the ruck where Tyneale dominated winner 90% of the ball that went to ground.
Well done girls a great game and you deserved the huge support you got
1st Xv win 27-11 away at Creighton – good result against a team that can be a banana skin for Keswick – awful game – stop start and ruined by the wind – plus Creighton have decided to turn the pitch around which makes it a very short pitch. Keswick lucky to have 15 after Carrick retaliated to some fancy pummelling with a haymaker in front of the ref – sideline betting was it was going to be straight red – very lucky only a yellow – we gave far too many penalties away and whilst the ref decision were “sharp” we should have learnt a lot earlier.
2nd’s lost 29-0 to Penrith at home in agame that will probably decide 2nd place in the Shield.
Dont forget there some good rugby tommorrow morning and the U18 girls are playing as well at 1pm against Tynedale – they are very good and well worth watchingÂ
one of those glorious weeks in Keswick, clear blue sky, crisp air – shame so many Keswickians have missed it having jetting off to warmer climes or the ski slopes
With lots of players away playing rescources were stretched – but the strength of the second team means we can fill gaps in the 1st xv fairly easily – but this of course then ripples down to the 2nds that saw Simon Grisdale having to return to the bench
Anyway the first team had a fairly easy win against a very young Egremont side scoring 15 in the first half and 17 in the 2nd to finish with a 32-0 win. Another Nil point conceded game - well done
At Ambleside the 2nds started well and looked to be cruising when they went 5-0 ahead. However a loose pass gave Ambleside a breakaway try so the half finished 5-5. In the second half the expected fitness advantage didnt happen and Ambleside gained confidence and scored a good try from a break down in the Keswick attack and finished off with a try in the last minute following some very poor missed tackles.
Still against a good Ambleside team and with so many new or rusty players on the field this was a good result if not a particulalry good peformance – however it could have been worse as I had actaully taken my kit in case we were short !
I know this is a bit anorachish (well probably a lot) but at the risk of boring everyone here is some background to todays record Club score.
Try Scorers
Jamie McKenzie 2, David Ray 3, Michael Branthwaite 1, Mark Ireland 2, Josh Terry 1, Brian Storey 1, Bryan Mol 1, Jon Hine 2, Mike Tait 2, Carrick Wharmby 1 amd Jack Farrell 1
Total Tries 17 = 85 points
Conversions 12 = 24 points TOTAL POINTS 109
The Old record was set in January 1949 at home against Ambleside when Keswick won by 106 – 0
However in those day a try was only 3 points, Conversions 2, Penalty 3 points and Drop Goals 4 points.
In 1949 the scorers were Thompson (MJM) 7, H Craghill 5, Morris 4, Thompson (ME) 2, J Scoon 2, E.Evans 2, Thompson (HE) 1, C Mason 1, A. Noon 1
A total of 25 tries = 75 points
Conversions 14 = 28 points
Penalties 1 = 3 points   TOTAL POINTS 106
So Record points score goes to todays 1st Xv but the record number of tries in a match is still with the team of 1949
1st xv win 109 – 0 – a Club record points score beating the 106-0 against Ambleside in 1949 – although the 1949 results was with the old point system so they still hold the most tries in a match record

Meanwhile the 2nd XV stormed back from last weeks off day at Silloth to beat Millom 58-0
Josh Terry has been a regular for the Falcons U18 team but England call ups meant that Mark Ireland got the call to play for the Falcons U18 team last week when he was on the bench, but this week saw him promoted to the starting line up for a win against the Border Raiders – must be a first to have 2 Keswick home grown lads playing for the Flacons – well done to them both
despite the threat of snow, sleet & hurricane winds both 1st & 2nd XV games were played
The 1st Xv kicked off early to accommodate the disaster of the England match and kept in top place with a 19-5 home visctory over Aspatria Eagles. No crack from this match as I wa out at Silloth with the seconds but have heard the odd comment of Aspatria given they had no 1st team fixture !
Meanwhile out on the Silloth coast the 2nd XV lost their unbeaten record by 27-0 to Silloth – we didnt turn up but the referees whistle definately did ! The game just didnt get going and the constance whistles meant frustration for both teams – the difference being the 100% kicking record on the day for Silloth which given the conditions was nothing short of superb. On the day Silloth were the better side but Silloths unnoticed constant offsides meant our back were never able to launch attacks
Side line crack – Jeremy Hall finding that the Silloth Fish & Chip shop sold a) deep fried black pudding and b) deep fried bacon sandwiches – yes he did end up in Carlisle hospital - miracously not for him but with an injured Keswick player !Â
