Keswick 6 Heaton Moor 6Â
With the River Greta going on Flood watch at midday the inevitable happened – a switch to the School Pitches -the long slog round has been improved by some better “drainage” along the track but still not an ideal welcome for todays visitors Heaton Moor – hopefully the wet memories will be forgotten by an intriguing game. With no takers for my pre match forecast of a game with no tries the game got underway. Both teams tried hard to find the tactics for the day and tried to play open rugby – but it was not to be. Keswick probably had the edge having played in monsoons on a regular basis but both packs proved to be evenly matched and despite everyones best efforts the game was resolved with the boot. Arguably the touch judges covered the most ground maintaining a fairly constant back and forth to behind the posts.
At the end of the day an enjoyable game in the filthiest weather – the return game in good weather should be something to savour
The 2nd XV game at home against Millom was cancelled due to a stag do in Blackpool for the Millom lads – on the day probably the best decision !
